A man’s admitted drugs offences following quick work from officers from the Chelmsford Community Policing Team and the council’s CCTV operators.
The CCTV operators spotted a drug deal taking place in Townfield Street at around 2.30pm last Saturday (24 August).
They alerted our Community Policing Team who stopped a man in Coval Lane a short time later and recovered 15 wraps of cocaine, a quantity of cannabis, £500 in cash, and a mobile phone which contained drugs marketing.
The man – 40 year-old Agron Aliaj, of no fixed address – was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and acquiring, using, or possessing criminal property.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 26 August where he admitted the offences and is due to be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court on 23 September.
PC James Nickless, from Chelmsford CPT, said:
“This conviction is the result of excellent partnership working between ourselves and Chelmsford City Council’s CCTV operators.
“They were quick to spot a crime taking place and alerted us straight away, meaning we were able to locate and arrest Agron Aliaj within 10 minutes of the deal taking place.
“This kind of partnership working helps keep people safe in our city, and put criminals behind bars.”
