Chelmsford man who breached criminal behaviour order is jailed.
Sammy Day was jailed for 16 weeks after he pleaded guilty to breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) when he appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13 August.
The 31-year-old, of no fixed abode in Chelmsford, was arrested on Sunday 11 August following reports that he had breached a five-year CBO on four occasions between 29 July and 8 August. The CBO, issued 23 August last year, prevented Day from begging in Chelmsford city centre until 23 August 2028.
Sergeant Graham Thomas of the Chelmsford Town Team said:
This type of antisocial behaviour has a significant impact on the city’s businesses and visitors, who may stop coming to avoid those concerned in begging and related ASB issues.
But I want to highlight that Chelmsford is safe and we’ll continue to work with partners to focus on this issue to ensure everyone’s safety.
Sammy Day remains subject of the Criminal Behaviour Order which requires him to cease begging, cease from being in possession of any open container of alcohol in any outdoor public place and not to leave any belongings in the Chelmsford city centre.
