Our officers were proud to support 33 Engineer Regiment as they exercised their right and privilege to march through the streets of Uttlesford district.
The Freedom of Uttlesford Parade was held in SaffronWalden on 28 July and saw soldiers from 33 Engineer Regiment (Explosive Ordnance Disposal & Search), based at Carver Barracks in Wimbish, march through the town.
Inspector Phil Jackson, of Uttlesford Community Policing Team, also thanks the public for their support of the parade through the town.
“It was the great privilege of Uttlesford community policing and town centre teams to ensure that the event went smoothly and allowed 33 Engineer Regiment to exercise the rights bestowed on them.
“We worked closely with military personnel from the regiment to plan the operation and to ensure the safety of the soldiers marching, as well as the public, during the event.”
The grant of honorary freedom is usually bestowed by local councils upon local regiments, in recognition of their dedicated service. And it is common for military units to periodically exercise their freedom by arranging a parade through the city, town or district they have been granted the freedom of.
The Freedom of Uttlesford was granted to 33 Engineer Regiment (EOD&S) in 2009.
