Three teenage boys have each been charged with 30 counts of criminal damage after a spate of tyre slashings in Harlow.
Over the course of three weeks from the end of May, a number of residents across the town discovered their cars had been damaged overnight.
Following extensive CCTV work, officers identified and arrested three suspects.
A 13-year-old boy will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 30 August, a 14-year-old will appear at the same court on 11 September, with another 13-year-old appearing at Colchester Youth Court on 19 September.
All three boys are from Harlow and cannot be named due to their ages.
PC Abigail Lawton, the officer in charge of the case, said:
“People are reliant on their vehicles to get to work and take their children to school. The amount of distress, cost and inconvenience these mindless acts caused cannot be underestimated.
“Understandably, victims questioned why they had been targeted and wanted to know who was behind the attacks.
“This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and I’d like to thank everyone locally who provided CCTV footage that was vital in enabling us to identify suspects.”
