A man has been arrested by armed officers after a member of the public reported being threatened with what was described as a firearm.
The victim was in the St Osyth Road East area of Little Clacton shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday 14 December when he reported being confronted by a man holding an item which was described as a pistol-style firearm.
The victim left the area to safety and then called police.
As a result of the reported threat, armed officers were sent to the scene and a man aged in his 70s was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.
During a subsequent search of a home, a BB gun and two air rifles were located. They were made safe by specialist officers and seized.
The man has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.
Chief Inspector Colin Cox said:
“I’m aware that the deployment of armed officers to a residential road may have caused some alarm and I would like to make it clear to residents that we now know there was no wider threat to anyone in the area
“The investigation into this incident will now progress fairly and appropriately.”
