West Thurrock: Partnership working to tackle anti-social driving

Essex Police is working with Thurrock Council and other partners as they continue to tackle anti-social driving in West Thurrock.

On Wednesday 18 December Thurrock Council announced a renewal of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in the area.

The order will run for three years until 17 December 2027 with a focus on managing anti-social driving and reducing how this affects the local community.

Thurrock Police Acting Inspector Adam Bowden works closely with the council and said:

“We speak to local residents and businesses in this area and fully understand the impact this type of driving has in West Thurrock.
"This persistent behaviour has a detrimental impact on local people. We want people to enjoy their vehicles, but when they speed, race, drive in convoys, perform stunts and make excessive noise we will take action.
"This PSPO prohibits car cruising activity in the designated area. It also stops people congregating to watch vehicles.
"Vitally this extension also stops car parks from being used for this purpose.”

Community Safety Engagement Officers will be outside Tesco in Cygnet View between 12pm and 2pm.

They will be able answer any questions people have about the PSPO, so do come along and say hello if you see us.

In the evening officers will be working alongside colleagues from the fire service and Thurrock Council to ensure the PSPO is being adhered.

“This order complements the work we do and will continue to do to reduce anti-social behaviour and enhance public safety.
"We will be enforcing the order and I urge people to continue contacting us if they have any concerns in their local area.”
