We are continuing to question a man in connection with a fire which left a railway station, surrounding commercial premises and nearby vehicles damaged in Harwich.
Emergency services were called to fires at the bus station and Harwich Town railway station shortly before 7.40pm yesterday (Friday 2 February).
Officers responded quickly and swiftly arrested a 36 year-old man from Harwich was arrested an hour later.
He is currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of arson endangering life and possession of firearms offences.
While we are still working to establish the circumstances around the fire, we believe it was started at a nearby, unconnected business premises and spread to the railway station.
Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Hutchinson said:
“Officers worked quickly to make a swift arrest last night and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“We also do not believe this incident is connected with any other fires that took place last night.
“Harwich Town Railway Station is currently closed due to our investigation but we’re anticipating it should re-open later today and we are working with British Transport Police and the rail operator”.
A man’s been arrested as officers responded quickly to a fires that have damaged two vans and railway station building in Harwich.

Two vans at the bus station and the railway station building have been damaged.
We believe the fires were started deliberately and we are treating them as arson.
Officers responded swiftly and a 36 year-old man from Harwich was arrested an hour later.
He is currently in custody being questioned on suspicion of arson endangering life and possession of firearms offences.
Chief Inspector Jon Evans said:
“I know this incident will have caused concern in our community but we have responded quickly to get a suspect into custody.
“We are working with the fire service and British Transport Police to deal with these fires, reduce the impact on the community, and establish the circumstances which led up to them.
“I need anyone who has any information about what happened to contact us”.
