A man is being questioned by our officers on suspicion of dangerous driving after a pursuit.
At around 1.40am today (Friday 2 February), officers received intelligence a Toyota car was travelling on the A13 at Basildon with cloned plates.
We were in pursuit just five minutes later, but the vehicle failed to stop for officers, reaching speeds of up to 100mph and heading the wrong way along the A13.
The vehicle was stopped at a service station and the driver fled.
Thanks to assistance from the National Police Air Service helicopter, a man was traced and located hiding nearby.
A 20-year-old man, from Hockley, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop.
