Assistant Chief Constable Andy Mariner is our force lead for Response Policing.
And to highlight the amazing work our response officers across Essex do to help people, keep them safe and catch criminals 365 days a year, he dropped in on Clacton Local Policing Team (LPT) and spent a Late Turn on duty with them.
Here, he gives an insight into a typical shift.
Almost every investigation begins life as a 999 call. Across Essex in the last year, we’ve responded to almost 80,000 emergencies while our response officers have made more than 17,000 arrests.
They are the officers you will usually see first on the scene when you need us most.
ACC Mariner says:
“When they arrive for their shift, response officers never know where they will be going or what they will be facing and sometimes that will be hostility and aggression.
“But whatever they are faced with, their number one priority is to help the public, put victims first and, ultimately, catch and arrest people who are doing bad things.
“When the public hears about heroic officers helping to save lives after violent incidents or helping someone who might be extremely vulnerable, it’s very likely those officers will be from our response units.”
So now you've seen just a little bit of what our brilliant response teams do ...
