A man has appeared in court charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident in Chelmsford on Friday 7 June.
Officers were called to Charnwood Avenue to reports of a man with serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition, but with potentially life-threatening injuries.
As part of a fast-paced investigation a 29 year-old man was arrested.
Allan Neil, of Marlowe Road, Walthamstow, London, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Tuesday 11 June and was remanded in custody.
He is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday 9 July.

At the scene we found a man in his 20s with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable, but he has potentially life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday 9 June a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody for questioning and our enquiries continue.
Officers appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any footage and has not been in touch to make contact.

Detectives have launched an attempted murder investigation after a serious assault in Chelmsford on Friday 7 June.
Officers were called to reports that a man had been assaulted in Charnwood Avenue at around 9pm.
At the scene we found a man in his 20s with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where his condition is described as stable, but he has potentially life-threatening injuries.
Our enquiries are continuing at pace and we would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed the incident or has any footage to contact us immediately.
Detective Inspector Guy Turnbull, who is leading the investigation said:
“We know this incident will be concerning to people and we are working round the clock to understand what has happened and find the person responsible.
"We believe this is an isolated incident.
"However, we want to hear from anyone who was in the area. Any piece of information could be vital in helping us with our investigation.”
