Officers made arrests within 15 minutes of responding to reports of a burglary at a Co-op store in Colchester.
We were alerted to a break-in at the address, in Mersea Road, shortly after 1.30am on Monday 4 March.
It was reported individuals were attempting to steal alcohol from the premises.
After obtaining a description of the suspects, officers attended the scene and located two men in the area of Napier Road.
Both were detained and in handcuffs by 1.44am.
Bottles of alcohol and a sum of cash were recovered.
A burglary charge has since been authorised against Luke Buxton, 29, of Southway, Colchester.
He has been released on bail until a hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 16 April.
A 30-year-old man, initially arrested on suspicion of burglary, will face no further action.
Chief Inspector Colin Cox, Colchester district commander, said:
“Attending burglaries is a key priority for my teams in Colchester, as we know this kind of offending has a profound impact on victims.
“In the case of retailers, theft and burglary have a financial impact and cause fear and wider concern to staff and customers.
“The fast response in this case exemplifies our approach to this issue.”
At Essex Police we put victims at the heart of everything we do. The Victims’ Code explains the rights that everyone can expect to receive as a victim of crime, and helps us define what we must do for all victims from their initial contact with our force until the conclusion of their case.
