Meet Project Manager for Estates Services, Danni Hammond. Danni is part of a team of project managers, surveyors and engineers. They oversee plans and manage the Essex Police estate - our offices and police stations.
There are more than 650 different roles for police staff in Essex. Danni's role means that we are able to ensure our officers, staff and volunteers have the facilities they need to help people, keep people safe and catch criminals. This includes creating safe and secure environments where we can provide support to victims of crime.
Danni’s role also includes assessing project risks and putting plans in place to mitigate, organising and attending project boards, working groups as well as working with external agencies on collaborative projects.
We asked her about her work and career in a police staff role.
The best thing about my role is working with colleagues across Essex Police, building positive relationships with other departments, whilst modernising their working and working towards a greener force. It’s wonderful to look at the project you started on months or years previously and see the result just as you and your colleagues pictured it.
All the estate projects I have completed to date differ. The variety in my workload is vast and allows me to expand my technical knowledge in both project management and construction.
We work in a fast-paced environment meeting strict budgets and delivering at pace, all whilst ensuring governance and policy is followed, procurement routes are fair and viable, and when on site all regulations and health and safety guidelines are implemented.
I joined Essex Police ten years ago in our Business Services department, moving to Executive Support for our Transport Services team. I then joined our Estate Services team, starting out as a Junior Project Manager and I went onto achieve my qualification in PRINCE2 foundation and practitioner.
I’m really proud of my work and recently I refurbished a disused space for collaborative working between departments, opening up the area to allow for bigger conference spaces. It also saw a complete refurbishment of an old impractical kitchen and dining area transformed into a space for improved welfare and to support the wellness and wellbeing of officers and staff.
I also project managed the creation of a new block of classrooms, which are now modern and fit for purpose, providing a positive and professional learning experience for our new recruits.
Works are also ongoing across the county on major projects to deliver key facilities which will be used collaboratively by Essex Police and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to provide a better and more economical service to the communities we serve.
At Essex Police, we value difference. We know we’re strongest when we work together. And we want a workforce that represents our communities.
If you share our values and want to help people, keep people safe and catch criminals, then join us as a police officer, member of staff, special constable or volunteer.
