Man jailed for two years after admitting breaching SHPO

Thanks to the work of our specialist team who manage the risk posed by registered sex offenders, a man who admitted breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order on multiple occasions, has been jailed for two years.
Trevor Day, 51, of Southey Green, Sible Hedingham, was jailed for a total of two years at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday 22 March after he admitted breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) 11 times. He also admitted two counts of failing to comply with notifications in connection with the Sexual Offenders Register and possession of a prohibited image of a child.
Trevor Day had been convicted of a sexual offence and had the SHPO imposed upon him at Chelmsford Magistrates Court in 2014. Under the requirements, Day was prevented from using social media, using any device that could access the internet or possess a phone not notified to police.
As part of a routine monitoring check carried out by our Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders team (MOSOVO), officers attended Day’s home address on 17 August 2022 where they seized five devices that showed Day had contravened his SHPO conditions.
Detective Constable Carole Currey, investigating, said:
Trevor Day knew that he was committing offences that breached his SHPO which was imposed by the court to protect our communities from the predatory nature of the behaviour displayed by Day.
I’d like to reassure the public that we carry out these checks to identify any breach that could place a child or someone at risk and manage the risk that a sex offender could pose.

MOSOVO are a team of specialist officers who manage the risk posed by registered sex offenders when in the community.
The team helps to protect the public from some of the county’s most dangerous sexual and violent offenders and are an integral part of the nationwide multi agency MAPPA process which aims to reduce re-offending.
This work includes monitoring and risk assessing of offenders prior to, and after, their release from prison to reduce the risk they pose.
The highly trained, plain clothes MOSOVO teams work away from the public gaze are vital to keeping the public safe from Registered Sexual and Violent Offenders.
