Our Road Crime Team officers led teams from across the force in conducting high visibility patrols in a countywide effort to tackle road-related crime and road safety on Sunday 17 and Monday 18 March.
Working together, the Road Crime Team (RCT) and colleagues from OSG, Roads Policing and the Dog Unit, patrolled Essex to identify and target those breaking the law and in a concerted effort, arrested ten people for a variety of offences relating to stolen vehicles and drink or drug driving.
In total, they arrested four on suspicion of theft of vehicles whilst arresting two for drug driving and one for drink driving.
In addition, they recovered nine stolen vehicles and seized 13 vehicles for no insurance. Fifteen drivers were reported for traffic offences.
On the first evening, they arrested a teenage boy in connection with the attempted theft of a car in North Stifford. When officers checked the details of the moped he was riding, they discovered it was reported as stolen from London.
In addition, RCT officers stopped two vehicles not displaying vehicle registration plates. The rider of a motorcycle tested positive for drugs at the roadside and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and the driver of a Transit had his van seized for no insurance.
On the second evening (18 March) two men were arrested in Grays on suspicion of being involved in a burglary in a neighbouring force’s area and enquiries regarding the car they were travelling in showed that it was a stolen vehicle from London.
Our Road Crime Team will continue this important work to keep our communities safe from the harm caused by those involved in vehicle crime.
Help us reduce road collisions and casualties in Essex and make our roads even safer. Report instances of poor and dangerous driving through Safer Essex Roads Partnership's Extra Eyes initiative.
More than ever, irresponsible, dangerous and illegal road behaviour is being recorded by road users. Through Extra Eyes this footage can be sent to, and reviewed by, an investigator within Road Policing at Essex Police.
