On Monday 25 March, our Road Crime Team officers patrolled the county’s roads to tackle road-related crime and road safety.
Working with teams from across the force, the officers arrested six people for a variety of offences including drink driving, dangerous driving, theft from a shop and vehicle theft.
The first two arrests happened when a car believed to be connected to a theft from a shop in Braintree was stopped in Brentwood. Following a search a number of goods, which had been reported stolen, were found. The driver and passenger were both arrested.
Arrest three came when our officers spotted a car which was being driven badly on the M25 near Brentwood. The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested. His vehicle was also seized as it was not covered with any insurance.
In Colchester officers from our Roads Policing Unit pursued a vehicle after it failed to stop when requested. Officers from other units supported and the vehicle eventually stopped. In the fourth arrest of the evening the driver was arrested for numerous offences including dangerous driving and theft of a vehicle.
Arrests five and six were in connection with a high value theft from a shop in Kent.
Inspector Emma Patterson said:
“The Road Crime Team and colleagues from OSG, Roads Policing and the Dog Unit continue to conduct high visibility patrols to identify and target those intent on breaking the law.
“These arrests show the type of criminality on our roads, from people driving in a poor or dangerous manner, to those who use our roads to commit crime or try to evade arrest.
“Let us be very clear, if you are committing offences on our roads, we will arrest you as we continue to tackle road-related crime.
“Whether it’s using vehicles to transport stolen goods, driving stolen and cloned vehicles or driving under the influence - we will tackle serious violence and protect our communities from harm.”
