A man has been charged and remanded to court just hours after a teenager was reportedly robbed of his bicycle in Southend.
Officers with Southend’s Community Policing Team, working closely with Southend CID, responded swiftly to the incident, which took place on Sunday 10 March.
We received a call shortly after 8pm from a woman reporting her son had been robbed at knifepoint in the area of Sutton Road.
Officers attended and, following enquiries, two suspects were in handcuffs by 8.30pm.
The victim’s bicycle was later recovered.
Detective Constable Michelle Rawson, of Southend CID, said:
“The victim in this case was a lone 15-year-old boy, who reported he was robbed at knifepoint in what was undoubtedly a terrifying incident for him.
“We’ve put support in place for him and will be ensuring his wellbeing as we continue to build a case.
“No-one should ever have to face an incident of this nature, and whilst they remain rare, we are never complacent in ensuring a robust response when they do occur.”
A robbery charge has since been authorised against Daniel Steward, 27, of no fixed address.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday 12 March), where he was remanded in custody until a further hearing at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday 9 April.
A 31-year-old man, from Southend, initially arrested on suspicion of robbery, will face no further action.
