The incredible and vital work of our Special Constabulary was celebrated at their annual awards ceremony at Essex Police Headquarters.
Assistant Chief Constable Andy Mariner, who leads for Local Policing, and Police Fire and Crime Commissioner Roger Hirst presented 11 awards at the event, which was hosted by Superintendent Naomi Edwards, in the Assembly Hall.
The Specials from across the county, joined by family and friends, came together to recognise and celebrate the outstanding work of the officers which has helped to catch criminals and keep people safe.
The evening was opened by ACC Mariner who, supported by PFCC Hirst, congratulated all the winners and presented them with their awards.
Details of the finalists’ work was read out to the audience by Supt Edwards, clearing demonstrating the effort, pride and dedication which is delivered by specials day in and day out to support regular officers.
Supt Edwards said:
“It’s truly inspiring to hear about the amazing work which is undertaken by you all every day to keep people in Essex safe.
"You have all joined the police force to help serve the public and give something back to your community.
"Thank you for your incredible contribution. You are all making a real and positive difference to people’s lives across Essex.”
Specials dedicate at least 16 hours a month to policing alongside their work and family commitments.
Essex Police has the second largest Special Constabulary in the country, after the Metropolitan Police, with more than 250 serving officers.
Special Constables are volunteer Police Officers. They have the same police powers, uniforms and equipment as regular Police Officers but sacrifice their free time on a voluntary basis, organising their busy personal lives, day jobs and other commitments around police duties.
