Dispersal orders set for Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree

Dispersal orders will be in place in Chelmsford, Maldon and Braintree this weekend following information suggesting a large car meet could take place.

The orders will be in place from 5pm on Saturday 4 May until 5am on Monday 6 May and covers the area shown on the attached map.

They will give officers powers to direct anyone suspected of causing anti-social behaviour to leave the area or face arrest.

'Past events have caused real issues'

Inspector Philip Jackson said:

“We know real issues have been caused for people living nearby during past events of this nature.
“This includes concerns arising over the noise and nature of the driving during these events.
“We’ve also previously seen collisions, crime and disorder take place as a consequence, as well as roads blocked while races take place – causing serious risk to all involved.
“Taking this action will hopefully prevent the event from taking place but gives officers the power to direct anyone believed to be taking part to leave the area to ensure the safety of the public using our roads.”
