Meet Detective Constable Paula Doyle, she works in our Major Investigations Team.
She transferred to Essex from another force to be able to progress her career and find a work life balance for her family.
We spoke to her about her work and why she chose to move her career to Essex.
I am currently a Detective Constable (DC) working in the Major Investigations Team (MIT). I joined Essex as a DC in Volume Fraud.
I joined the police as a control room operator in 2001. I became a regular in 2005 because I wanted to make a difference and help people.
I transferred from City of London police to achieve an improved work/life balance. I live in Essex and for childcare reasons it has been more beneficial to be closer to home.
I had met a number of officers from the force who said how much they enjoyed their time here and how good the management and ethos were.
Essex Police is so different to my previous force, there is more opportunity to gain experience and be exposed to different types of crime.
There are so many; policing G20, Occupy London protests, being involved in high profile murder investigations and meeting Prince Charles outside St Paul’s Cathedral after an event.
It has made me both tougher and more compassionate.
I’ve booked a prisoner into custody in French! I’m also a qualified researcher which has helped in drafting questionnaires.
I would like to continue to progress through promotion.
Essex is a great force to work for. I came from a smaller force however this feels more like a family despite it being much bigger. There’s a variety of jobs roles which makes the job exciting, and no two days are the same.
At Essex Police, we value difference. We know we’re strongest when we work together. And we want a workforce that represents our communities.
If you share our values and want to help people, keep people safe and catch criminals, then join us as a police officer, member of staff, special constable or volunteer.
