Southend’s District Commander, Chief Inspector Jo Collins, has said anyone spending the bank holiday weekend in the city can expect to see a visible police presence.
Whatever the weather, Southend’s local and community policing teams will be out responding to incidents and keeping people safe.
Ch Insp Collins also sent a warning to anyone who steps out of line.
She said: “Southend is a family-friendly resort and our officers will be working alongside the council’s community safety team, the British Transport Police, and local businesses’ security teams to make sure it stays that way.
“The city welcomes thousands of people every year to enjoy the beach and leisure attractions. We want everyone who comes here to have fun but do so without putting themselves or others in danger.
“Don’t be that person who spoils the atmosphere - act responsibly and respect the local area. Anyone stepping out of line and indulging in anti-social or criminal behaviour will be swiftly dealt with.
“If you need help or have concerns about anything or anyone, our officers will be out in the city and they will do all they can to assist.”
Ch Insp Collins also responded to incidents of violence that have taken place in the last week.
Five people were arrested after an assault off Victoria Avenue including a 16-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
She said: “It’s understandable that local people would be concerned but we do not believe there is any wider danger to the public.
“We are tackling violent crime, arresting more people for drug offences and as we come into the summer months, we will maintain a highly visible presence in the busiest areas of the city.
“All crime is down by almost 10%, and there have been 1,400 fewer violent incidents across the district in the last year.”
