Officers investigating a fatal collision on the A414 at Writtle are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
We were called shortly after 10am this morning (Wednesday 1 May) to a collision involving a lorry and a car.
Sadly, we are now in a position to confirm a woman, aged in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Our enquiries into this collision are continuing and a road closure remains in place in both directions at Writtle.
Inspector Timothy Swain, of our Roads Policing Unit, said:
“Very sadly we are now in a position to confirm this is a fatal collision.
“The family of the woman concerned have been informed and are being supported.
“Our thoughts remain with them this afternoon.
“We remain on the scene of this serious collision as teams work to make the road safe and carry out enquiries.
“I appreciate the disruption this causes to road users, but it is vital we ensure our investigation is carried out properly and the scene made safe.”
We need anyone with information, or footage, which could assist our enquiries to come forward.
