Tiptree: Disqualified driver jailed

Thanks to the work of our roads policing officers, a disqualified driver has been jailed for 28 months.

Gregory Taylor of Willow Walk, Tiptree, was jailed for 28 months at Colchester Magistrates’ Court where he appeared on Wednesday 23 October.

The 37-year-old had pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and for breaching a crown court licence.

Taylor was arrested by PC Tom Raes of the Roads Policing Unit whilst carrying out patrols in Tiptree on Friday 24 May after they witnessed the known disqualified motorist drive his car off the road and on to his driveway.

The defendant saw police pull up behind his BMW and moved to the passenger seat in an attempt to persuade officers he had not been driving.

Taylor had been disqualified for four years at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday 10 November 2022 for driving offences that included dangerous driving on the A12 when he drove against the traffic.

Following his arrest, Taylor was remanded into custody and appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court the following day (25 May).

PC Tom Raes said:

“Road safety is a force priority and we will do all we can, working with our partners, to keep our roads safe and enforce the law.

“Taylor should not have been driving that day – he had already been disqualified from driving. But he took a risk and got behind the wheel.

“It’s poor decisions and a reckless attitude like this that threatens the safety of others.

“Taylor’s driving ban has extended, meaning he cannot drive for 50 months.”

The court issued no separate penalty for the two counts of driving with excess drugs and driving without no insurance.
