A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender as part of our ongoing investigation into the murder of Kieran Shepherd.
Officers attended a property in Stafford Green, Basildon, in the early hours of Tuesday 19 November and arrested the suspect at the address.
He was released on bail until 28 January 2025 pending further enquiries, and our investigation continues.
Three men – 20-year-old Joseph Dawe of Greenland Gardens in Great Baddow, 19-year-old Zack O’Keeffe of Stafford Green in Langdon Hills, Basildon, and 19-year-old Harrison Carpenter of Ben Wilson Link in Springfield, are charged with Kieran’s murder and remain remanded in custody ahead of their next court hearing on 6 January 2025.
The family of the 30-year-old man who died in Chelmsford on Tuesday have paid tribute to him, saying he will ‘be forever in their hearts’.
The man was assaulted in Meadgate Avenue at about 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 October.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of those helping the 30-year-old, Kieran Shepherd died at the scene.
In a statement, Kieran’s family said:
“Kieran was a kind and loving son, brother, and father, his loss has left a massive hole in the lives of his family and friends.
“Our lives will never be the same without him, he will be forever in our hearts.
“Our family asks for privacy at this difficult time.”
Since the incident officers have built a timeline of events, reviewed hours of CCTV, conducted house-to-house enquiries, and carried out phone and vehicle checks to establish the clearest possible picture of what happened.

Detectives investigating the death of Kieran Shepherd have charged two more men.

Carpenter will next appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday 21 October.
Two men, aged 19 and 20, who were arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday 18 October remain in police custody.

Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Chelmsford have arrested a teenager.

Multiple lines of enquiry are being pursued as detectives continue to investigate a murder in Chelmsford.
We were called to the assault in Meadgate Avenue at about 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 October, where officers found a 30-year-old man seriously injured who later died at the scene.
Three suspects, all men who we believe were trying to conceal their faces, were seen leaving the area shortly after the assault.
In the past 24 hours dozens of our officers and police staff have built a timeline of events, reviewed hours of CCTV, conducted house-to-house enquiries in the surrounding streets and carried out checks on phone numbers and vehicles to make the clearest possible picture of the assault and the circumstances surrounding it.
Officers have been at the scene and patrolling in the area today, with a number of members of the public speaking to our officers on duty.

Our officers have launched a murder investigation in Chelmsford after a man was assaulted in a residential street in the city.
We were called to the scene of the assault in Meadgate Avenue at about 12.30pm on Tuesday 15 October.
Our officers, including firearms officers, were deployed to the scene and a 30-year-old man was found with serious injuries.
Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those at the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
Three suspects, all men wearing balaclavas, were seen leaving the area shortly after the assault.

“This is a terrible incident and my first thoughts are with the family of the man who has died.
“I have a team of officers working around the clock to identify and arrest these suspects, and I need the public’s help to do so.

“This happened in a residential area of Chelmsford, next to busy roads. Members of the public may have vital CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of this incident.
