We’re continuing to investigate a serious assault in Colchester during which a man sustained a number of wounds.
He was taken to hospital for medical treatment and, thankfully, his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.
We were called to the incident, which took place in an alleyway between Kendall Road and Winnock Road, shortly after 9pm on Saturday 28 September.
The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was approached by a person from behind before sustaining a stab wound to his shoulder.
He also sustained a number of other cuts to his arm and torso but is now thankfully recovering.
No arrests have been made and officers from Colchester CID are following a number of targeted lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV in the area carrying out house-to-house checks.
At this stage, we’re treating this as an isolated incident with no ongoing threat posed to the wider Colchester public.
Detective Inspector Tim Coyles, of Colchester CID, said:
“We’ve been working around the clock to identify strong lines of enquiry to ensure that the person or people responsible for this incident are identified and ultimately put before the court.
“At this stage, we do believe this was an isolated incident which may have involved people known to each other. Our assessment is that there is no ongoing threat to our community.
“But, of course, that will not allay the concerns of residents in New Town, who will naturally be shocked.
“We’ve spoken to numerous people to gain witness accounts but I would continue to appeal to anyone with information on this incident, to please come forward and speak to us – and if you do not want to speak directly to the police, you can provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers.”
