We are thrilled to welcome four new Special Constables, Simon Boygle, Hannah Fox, Bayley Knight and Stephen Wooder, who have recently completed their training and are eager to start patrolling and serving the community.

Special Constables are volunteers who dedicate their free time to help keep their communities safe. They have the same powers as regular police officers, which means they can make arrests, conduct investigations, and patrol neighbourhoods. They undergo training to ensure they’re ready for any situation, from directing traffic to handling emergencies. But here’s the twist: they do all this while juggling their regular jobs and personal lives.

Assistant Chief Constable Mariner said;

“It’s incredibly inspiring to learn about the remarkable efforts our Specials put in daily to ensure the safety of Essex residents. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and fresh perspectives are truly motivating.

They remind us of the boundless potential within our team and the bright future ahead. I also want to thank Simon, Hannah, Bayley and Stephen for choosing to embark on this journey with us.

Together, we can make our community safer and stronger.”

Each of our Specials brings a unique story and a strong commitment to making a difference. The same goes for our four newest recruits, each with their own inspirations and motivations for volunteering.

Hannah Fox

“I already work for Essex Police in recruitment and have always wanted to do more for my community.

I love my job and the team I’m currently with, but I felt a strong desire to volunteer my spare time.

Inspired by someone on my own team, I’m excited to get out and make a difference, driven by my pride and passion for my work.”

Her enthusiasm is infectious, and she hopes to inspire others to join the force and contribute to the safety and well-being of our community. Hannah’s journey shows that even when you love your job, there’s always room to give more and make a greater impact.

Stephen Wooder

“In my day role, I’ve worked as part of aviation security at Stansted Airport for seven years but I was looking to branch out into a policing career.

Although personal circumstances prevent me from joining full-time right away, I’m eager to start my policing career as a special constable.

I am inspired by my uncle, a retired inspector for Essex. I also want to be a role model for my children and have been looking forward to this opportunity for a long time.”

Stephen’s story highlights the importance of perseverance and the influence of family in shaping one’s career path. Stephen’s dedication to becoming a special constable despite challenges is a testament to his commitment and passion for our community.

Bayley Knight

“I currently work in retail, but I was inspired by my father, who has been with Essex Police for 21 years. Hearing stories about how he helps people motivated me to follow in his footsteps.

I’ve always had an interest in the police. I see this as a great way to determine what the role offers before embarking on my next pursuit of becoming a regular officer.”

Bayley’s is one example of how family legacy and personal ambition can come together to create a positive impact. His story encourages us to listen to our inner calling and pursue paths that allow us to help others.

Simon Boygle

“After a two-year hiatus due to outside work commitments, I wasn’t ready to hang up my helmet. After a brief break, I decided to rejoin the force when the time was right.

My daughter also started her training with Essex Police on the Investigate First detectives' program on the same day I attested.

It’s a special moment as we embark on our journeys together.”

Simon’s dedication is a testament to his passion for policing and his desire to serve the community alongside his daughter. His story is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to return to a calling that truly resonates with you.

These Special Constables are ready to bring their dedication and enthusiasm to the community. Their stories are a powerful reminder of the diverse backgrounds and motivations that drive individuals to serve. If you feel inspired by their stories and want to make a difference, consider joining Essex Police as a Special Constable. It’s a rewarding way to give back to your community and gain valuable experience.
