Two teenage boys were arrested and our investigation is progressing after a man was assaulted in a car park.
We were called out to a car park off Mayland Road, Witham, on Tuesday 15 October.
It was reported that a group of children were seen throwing firecrackers in the area, between 4.45pm and 5pm.
When a man challenged the group, he was assaulted.
Officers responded and are supporting the victim as they carry out an investigation.
As a result of these enquiries, on Thursday 17 October, two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
They have been questioned and released on bail with strict conditions attached while our investigation continues.
Inspector Philip Jackson, of Braintree and Uttlesford Community Policing Team, said:
“I’m aware details and speculation about this worrying incident have been widely shared on social media.
“I understand the public concern, and I want to reassure the community that I have dedicated officers in my team to investigating this incident to the fullest extent.
“We are not currently looking for any other suspects and our enquiries have progressed well.
“But I would urge anyone who may have further information to reach out to us, we’d really like to hear from you.”
