A man has been convicted of possessing a bladed article in a public place after officers found a knife in his car.
Ali Islamsediq, 42, of Dunmow Road in Takeley, was driving on Stortford Road in Great Dunmow in June 2023 when officers stopped him for a traffic offence.
Once stopped they searched his vehicle and located a knife under his drivers seat. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing the knife and was later charged by postal requisition.
He pleaded not guilty but at trial at Chelmsford Crown Court a jury found him guilty on Tuesday 8 April 2025.
He will has been released on court bail before he is sentenced at the same court on 3 June 2025.
Acting Sergeant Harvey Hillson said:
“It is unacceptable to carry an offensive weapon such as this either on your person or in your car.
“Islamsediq argued this knife was simply lost while moving his belongings from place to another, but the jury agreed with our assessment that this had been hidden in an accessible place in his car.
“We now await his sentencing.”
