Southend/Basildon: Five charged with vehicle thefts

• We have charged five men in connection with vehicle thefts.
  
  Four of the suspects were arrested by officers as part of simultaneous warrants carried out at addresses across the Southend and Basildon districts early on Tuesday 15 April.
  
  A fifth man presented himself to officers at Southend Police Station the same day.
  
  The warrants were executed in connection to the theft of vehicles in across the south of Essex.
  
  Now, the below have all been charged and remanded in custody:
  
  
• Aaron Wright, 33, of Danbury Close in Leigh, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles, theft of a motor vehicle and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug
• Daniel Wright, 31, of Preston Road in Westcliff, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and handling stolen goods
• Warren Simpson, 27, of West Street in Southend, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles and possession of cannabis
• Peter Winn, 40, of Crowstone Road in Westcliff, is charged with conspiracy to steal motor vehicles
• Ben Sharratt, 34, of Archer Avenue in Southend, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle
  
  They appeared at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 16 April.
  
  Wright and Wright were remanded in custody pending a future court hearing at Basildon Crown Court.
  
  Sharrat pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle and was sentenced to 35 weeks in prison.

As part of this work and to make Southend safer, we’ve also issued a closure notice on an address in Danbury Close, Leigh.

This helps us prevent anti-social behaviour and disorder at the address, as well as preventing anyone from attending the property unless specifically named.

After the service of the Closure Notice, we will be in court within 48 hours to close the property for a period of three months, during which time possession action will be taken.

"In collaboration with Essex Police and other local agencies, we employ various strategies to address the misuse of properties and persistent incidents of anti-social behaviour that affect our communities.
"This closure order is a crucial step in eliminating the anti-social behaviour associated with this property, ensuring the wellbeing and safety of local residents.
"We will continue to monitor activity at this address and strongly encourage local residents to report any violations of the closure order by contacting Essex Police online, on 101, or 999 in case of an emergency."
