Our Roads Policing Unit Specials led colleagues in road safety enforcement targeting uninsured vehicles as part of Operation Scalis.
The team led their full-time colleagues in an operation to take uninsured vehicles off our roads, thereby keeping everyone safe.
The clampdown in the Lakeside area of Thurrock, organised by Special Sergeant Steve Nelson, saw 10 uninsured vehicles seized and 20 traffic offence reports for a variety of road-related offences on Sunday 9 February.
The incredible team effort saw our Special Constabulary work alongside Roads Policing Unit officers to keep roads safe for everyone and to protect our more vulnerable road users.
Special Chief Inspector South LPA, Samantha Wright said:
Taking part in the same policing activities as our full-time colleagues is just one of the ways our volunteer police officers can help keep our communities safe.
Specials bring their life skills to the role and provide extra valuable resources to policing activities - they work just as tirelessly.
Each special officer was partnered with a roads policing officer, allowing them to develop their skills and knowledge, gaining a valuable insight into this specialised police role.
I’d encourage anyone who has something they can contribute to their community, to join us.
Our officers use information recorded on police and Motor Insurers Bureau databases to identify uninsured vehicles.
Once stopped, the driver is asked to prove they have insurance before being allowed on their way. Anyone driving an uninsured vehicle can expect it to be seized and taken off the road.
Special Constables, are volunteer police officers. They have the same police powers, uniforms and equipment as regular police officers. But Special Constables volunteer their time to help people and communities across Essex.
