A man has been charged following a swift investigation by officers following an incident in Basildon on Monday (February 17).
Officers were called to reports of an assault in Whitmore Way at just before 5.30pm.
Following fast-paced investigations a man and a woman were arrested on Tuesday (18 February).
Anthony Larwood, 42, of Epping Close, Chelmsford, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. He was due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 20 February).
A 35-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of affray has been released on police bail.
Detectives investigating an incident in Basildon where a man sustained a serious head injury have worked quickly to make two arrests.
A man and a woman were arrested in Chelmsford yesterday (Tuesday 18 February) and they are currently in custody.
Officers were called to reports of an assault in Whitmore Way just before 5.30pm on Monday (17 February).
The man, who’s in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not described as life-threatening.
It was reported the man had been involved in an altercation with the driver of a car in the moments leading up to the incident and we have been carrying out enquiries since then to locate them.
A 42 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and a 35 year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of affray and breaching a court order.
Chief Inspector Dan McHugh, District Commander for Basildon, said:
“I know this incident will have caused concern among our community but my officers have worked quickly to bring suspects into custody.
“We have had a visible presence in the area and if you have any concerns please come and speak to them.”

We are appealing for witnesses following an incident in Basildon on Monday February 17 where a man suffered a serious head injury.

A man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital in a serious condition. He remains in hospital and is receiving treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.
It was reported that the victim had been involved in an altercation with the driver of a car in the moments leading up to the incident.
He is described as white, aged in his 30s, around 6ft tall, of slim build with short brown hair and wearing a football shirt and a light blue jacket. He was with a woman who is described as white, around 5ft 3ins tall, in her early 30s, with long dark hair and wearing a tracksuit.
The car they were travelling in is believed to be a black Ford Focus with extensive damage on the driver's side.
Chief Inspector Dan McHugh, District Commander for Basildon, said:
"My officers are working hard to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident. I want to reassure the local community that our investigations are progressing at pace.
