Basildon: Nearly 250 arrests last month as officers work to secure justice

Basildon-based officers made almost 250 arrests last month as they work work to tackle crime and secure justice for you.

During the same time officers attended almost 1,500 incidents including almost 750 emergencies.

Chief Inspector Dan McHugh, District Commander for Basildon, said:

“These arrests represent the work that takes place day in, day out to bring suspects into custody, solve crime, and secure justice.

“This includes two people arrested on suspected drug offences following work by officers on proactive patrol, and two prolific shoplifters who admitted more than 75 offences between them.

“We know being a victim of crime can be the most impactive thing someone can experience so when something is reported to us we carry out reasonable lines of enquiry.

“The positive news is we’ve seen fewer emergencies this January than last year, which also corresponds with the consistent fall in crime we’ve seen across the district.

“People across our district have my commitment that our work to reduce crime, keep them safe, and secure justice for them will not stop.

“It's that commitment which is why 79 percent of people in Basildon think we do a good or excellent job.”
