More than 70 people were caught speeding in Basildon, Billericay, and Ingatestone by our team who work to keep you safe on the roads.
Our Road Crime Team carried out speed enforcement checks in the three areas yesterday (Tuesday 18 February) and identified a total of 73 people exceeding the speed limit.
It included someone going 73mph in a 50mph zone on Broadmayne in Basildon and someone doing 51mph in a 30mph zone on Roman Road in Ingatestone.
The team also spoke to local residents who were concerned about speeding vehicles and the danger it poses to other road users.
Inspector Steve Parry, from the Basildon Community Policing Team, said:
“We know that anti-social driving and speeding is something our communities are worried about and we’re taking action to deal with it.
“We cannot tolerate people putting the safety of others at risk on our roads which is why activity like this is so important.
“If we catch you speeding, we will deal with you.
“I’m grateful to the Enforcement Officer Team for their work in helping to keep people living her safe as they go about their day.”
Earlier this month the Road Crime Team carried out another operation in Basildon focussing on people putting others at risk on the road.
Activity on 8 February saw 16 arrests, including 10 for drink driving offences, as well as 18 uninsured vehicles being seized.
Nearly 130 other traffic offences were also reported, including speeding, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone behind the wheel.
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
