Plane crash in Ahmedabad
The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.
Swift justice!
Remember these pictures from a few days ago? Well, a man has appeared in court, admitted producing cannabis and abstracting electricity and been jailed for one year.
Ibrahim Celami was arrested after officers raided a property in Point Road, Canvey, on Wednesday 12 February.
Once in the property, they found 206 cannabis plants across five rooms.
Celami, 23, was arrested at the scene and very quickly charged.
He appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 February, admitted both offences and was sentenced.
Inspector David Kealy, of Castle Point and Rochford community policing team, said:
“We’re tackling illegal drug supply across Castle Point and Rochford in all its forms – and I hope our public see that we’re not wasting any time at all.
“Celami was arrested at 7.20am on Wednesday and by lunchtime on Thursday he was starting a year-long jail sentence thanks to the sheer weight of evidence against him.
“These sorts of results don’t happen by chance, they come after the community feels confident to report concerns to us and they come after officers go above and beyond to build a case and present that to the Crown Prosecution Service - and I know that’s exactly what our officers will continue to do.”
PC Trevor Phillips, who led the investigation, added:
“These drugs, which were worth up to £68,000 were destined for the streets of Castle Point and indeed across Essex. Instead, they’re being destroyed and the man behind them has been jailed.”
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
