Essex Police precept approved

Chief constable will increase the visibility of Essex Police officers patrolling, responding to emergencies, and investigating crime in local communities.

• Proposal made possible following £100m of extra Government funding announced on 31st January and is subject to Home Office grant approval in April;
• Essex Police and Crime Panel today (4th February) approved the Police, Fire, and Crime Commissioner’s precept increase following the Police & Crime Panel meeting at County Hall in Chelmsford;

Chief Constable Ben-Julian Harrington QPM said:

“Crime has fallen by over 10,000 offences in the last 12 months; that means fewer victims of crime and a safer county.

“It’s what I want and I know it’s what the people of Essex want too.

“We’re efficient and we’ve saved £62 million and re-invested a further £18m in efficiency savings since 2019.

“Our revised plans for the year ahead do still depend on government funding which is confirmed in April and I’d like to thank all our communities for supporting my officers and police staff.

“We are all committed to increasing the visibility of Essex Police officers patrolling, responding to emergencies, and investigating crime in local communities.”
