Officers responding to reports of a man showing off a knife in Harlow tracked him down and arrested him within seven minutes.
Following calls from the public, officers set out on foot and found him in the town centre.
Bodyworn of the incident shows the man getting handcuffed and then telling officers he’s carrying a knife which is recovered from under his coat.
A/Chief Inspector Leanne Archer said anyone carrying weapons will be hunted down and arrested:
“Our team are patrolling the hotspots in the town where we know incidents of violence are most likely and thanks to funding secured by the council, we now have an OpenGate weapons detection system that will help to catch anyone carrying a knife and deter others from doing so.
“Carrying a weapon is never justified and we are working with our partners in schools and colleges to give young people the confidence not to cave in to peer pressure and warning them about the potentially fatal consequences of their actions.
“I’d also like to thank the people who reported the man to us. If you spot someone committing an offence or acting suspiciously, tell us immediately and we can do something about it.”
