That's from Basildon's top police officer after two teenagers were arrested thanks to quick work by officers responding to reports of someone carrying a weapon.
Officers reported someone with a weapon in High Road, Pitsea shortly before 1.35pm on Saturday (15 February) and swiftly located a knife and detained two people.
A 17 year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
A 16 year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of common assault and possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
Chief Inspector Dan McHugh, District Commander for Basildon, said:
“Our number one priority is to protect the public from harm.
“The quick thinking and response of our officers has ensured a weapon has been recovered and two suspects are in custody.
“This is the kind of work that takes place each and every day across the Basildon district by hardworking and dedicated officers committed to keeping you safe.”
