Plane crash in Ahmedabad
The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.
A man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder following an investigation into a serious assault in Southend.
Our Serious Crime Directorate has continued to work at pace to establish the circumstances of an incident which unfolded inside an address in Stadium Road on the morning of Sunday 16 February.
Shortly before 5am we were called to the nearby Greyhound Way to reports of a man with stab wounds.
Officers and paramedics were on the scene within minutes and he was taken on to hospital.
His condition is now stable.
It was established he had sustained the injuries inside an address in Stadium Road.
Upon attending this address, officers further found a woman had also suffered some injuries, which are not life-threatening.
Later that morning, a 21-year-old man was arrested.
Following around-the-clock work, charges have been secured against Marlon Buchoon-Katsambe, 21, of Stadium Road, Southend.
He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and two counts of intentional strangulation, and is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Monday 17 February.
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said:
“This was a serious incident which rightly warranted a substantial response.
“We quickly had officers on the scene and across the wider Southend area carrying out enquiries yesterday and this work continues.
“I would like to praise the efforts of responding officers, and the paramedics and hospital staff, for their tireless work across the past 24 hours.
“These charges are the result of diligent effort across many teams to establish what led to two people suffering these injuries.
“While there will understandably be public concern, I would like to reinforce the message that we know this incident took place inside a private address and involved people known to each other.
“I remain confident there is no ongoing threat to the wider public.
“Please continue to reach out to officers directly in Southend or get in touch with us via the many methods we have available if you have any concerns, or information which could assist us.”
