We are investigating and an arrest has been made after an incident in a supermarket in Clacton.
Officers were called to the Lidl, in Brook Park West Retail Park, at around 11.05am today (Tuesday 29 July).
Attending alongside ambulance service colleagues, it was found a man had suffered stab injuries to his leg.
He has suffered serious injuries, but is in a stable condition and is receiving hospital treatment.
A second man was swiftly detained, a knife recovered and there is no continuing threat to the public.
He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken on to hospital in a serious condition after also suffering some injuries, which are believed to be self-inflicted at this stage.
The store has been evacuated while we deal with this incident and it remains closed to the public.
Please avoid the area and we will issue updates as soon as we can.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Scrivener said:
“I appreciate the widespread concern that will be felt as a result of this incident.
“I would praise the swift actions of staff at the store in question, and the swift actions of paramedics and our officers, which means there is no further risk to the public at this time.
“We are continuing to maintain a presence at the store and it will remain closed to the public while we carry out our enquiries.
“I want to ensure we have as clear a picture as possible of what led to this incident taking place.”
