Two people are now charged with weapons offences following an incident in Hawkwell which left one person seriously injured.
Officers attended Clements Hall Way at about 6.50pm on Friday 13 June after two suspects assaulted a group of young people.
One person sustained a serious injury to their leg and was taken to hospital for treatment, where the injury was found to be not life-threatening or life-changing.
We quickly arrested two 17-year-olds, from London and Leigh-on-Sea, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and questioned by officers.
Multiple property searches were also carried out and weapons have been seized.
Now, a 17-year-old from Leigh-on-Sea has been charged with possession an offensive weapon.
He has been remanded in custody ahead of appearing at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on Monday 16 June.
He is also bailed on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, attempted robbery, possessing criminal property and being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug, and our enquiries continue.
Our investigation also led to the arrest of a third person. Debbie Pickett, 51, of Rayleigh Drive in Leigh-on-Sea, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon, and has been released on bail to appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court on 14 July 2025.
A 17-year-old from London has been bailed following his arrest on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and attempted robbery until 23 August.
Chief Inspector David Browning said:
“We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously, and understand the impact this incident has had on the local community.
“Our work carries on in Hawkwell with further proactive patrols in the coming days.
“Now we have charged two people, we encourage the public not to speculate on the details of this case as it proceeds to court.”
We're offering more ways for our communities to stay up to date with our work across Essex.
