Officers investigating an incident on the beach near Clacton Pier are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
We were called and swiftly attended at around 10.30pm on Monday 6 July following reports of a disturbance involving a woman and a group of men.
Officers arrested four men for assault offences and they remain in custody for questioning.
A woman, who thankfully suffered no serious injury, was safeguarded and is being supported.
Chief Inspector Stuart Austin, Clacton district commander, said:
“All those involved in this incident were known to each other and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with our investigation.
“We understand this incident may have caused concern, but we do not believe there is any wider risk to the public.
“Our investigation is progressing at pace and four men remain in custody while we continue our enquiries.
“We know there were a number of people in the area at the time who may not yet have spoken to officers.
“Even if you think the information you have may seem insignificant, it could prove valuable to our investigation, so I would urge you to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should contact us as soon as possible.
