A man has been remanded into custody after appearing in court to face a charge of attempted murder.
Mark May, 54, of Falmouth Road, Chelmsford, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Monday 8 June.
It follows a serious incident which we were called to in Regina Road, Chelmsford, at just after 4.30pm on Saturday 6 June.
Officers arrived and found a woman had sustained a number of serious injuries which required immediate medical attention.
She was taken to hospital in a serious condition. She is currently receiving treatment.

A man has been charged with attempted murder as part of our investigation into a serious incident in Chelmsford.
We received numerous reports of a disturbance taking place in an area off Regina Road shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday 6 June.
Officers arrived and found a woman had sustained a number of serious injuries which required immediate medical attention.
She was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
During an immediate search of the area, officers arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder. He was initially taken to hospital for medical treatment and was subsequently discharged and taken into police custody.

A man has been arrested as part our response to a serious incident in Chelmsford.
We received numerous reports of a disturbance taking place in an area off Regina Road shortly after 4.30pm yesterday, Saturday 6 June.
Officers arrived and found a woman had sustained a number of serious injuries which required immediate medical attention.
She was taken to hospital in a serious condition, where she remains. Her loved ones are being supported.
During an immediate search of the area, officers arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. He was initially taken to hospital for medical treatment and was subsequently discharged. He is now in police custody.
There was a significant policing presence in the area throughout the evening as our investigation continued to be carried out.
Detective Inspector Luke Howard, who is overseeing the investigation, said:
“We received a number of calls from members of the public and we’re continuing to build a full picture of the circumstances around the incident.
“We know this incident took place in a relatively public setting and we’d like to thank the people who have come forward to provide witness accounts.
“Whilst this serious incident is less than 24 hours old, we know it involved people known to each other and there was no threat to the wider public.”
