A woman has admitted failing to stop at the scene of a fatal collision in Pitsea.
Roman, 16, and Darcie Casselden, 9, died when the privately owned e-scooter they were riding was in collision with a car in Ashlyns on 1 February last year.
Last month detectives from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit concluded their investigation and said there were no offences identified relating to the cause of the collision.
However, the driver of the car – 21 year-old Deimante Ziobryte, of Benfleet – had failed to stop at the scene of the collision and was located a short distance away.
She was was charged with failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
At Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Friday 6 March she pleaded guilty and is due to be sentenced at the same court on 6 May.
Detective Sergeant Sam Nason, who led the investigation, said:
“My thoughts, and those of my team, are with Roman and Darcie’s friends and family.
“Regardless of what led up to the collision, Deimante Ziobryte should have stopped at the scene.
“She did not attempt to return to the scene and she did not call the emergency services.
“As a result, she is now facing the possibility of a custodial sentence.”
