Our marine officers enjoyed meeting people out on the water over the May bank holiday and they’ll be doing it all again this weekend.
There were lots of personal watercraft on the River Blackwater in and around Steeple Bay and the team also visited Brightlingsea, Mersea Island, Point Clear and patrolled the River Colne.
PC Daren Chambers says:
“We are really pleased to report everyone we encountered was acting in a very responsible manner.”
Officers were also pleased to hear from The Stone Watersports Club at Southminster how they are proactive in ensuring their members are aware of, and abide by, local byelaws and are very supportive of the Marine Unit’s work to make the water safe for everyone.
Daren says:
“We put on extra patrols during the spring and summer along our coastline to help keep our marine community and coastal visitors safe.
“We don’t tolerate anti-social behaviour on the water and, under the banner of Operation Wave-Breaker, we work hard to educate visitors to about water safety, local byelaws and responsible behaviour.
“If you’re going out on the water, check local byelaws and speed limits, wear the right safety gear, keep an eye on the weather and tides and make sure you know what to do in an emergency.”
Find our PWC Code of Conduct and other safety information on the Marine Unit pages. Official launch points will also have signs outlining the local byelaws and highlighting what areas are speed restricted.”
