Colchester Cadets roll up their sleeves for spring clean

Glass bottles, tin cans and plastic bags were just a few of the items cleared away during a cadet-led spring clean of Colchester over the weekend.

Armed with litter pickers and bin bags provided by Colchester Borough Council, the cadets gave up their free time to clear rubbish from streets, gardens and rivers around the town.

Led by Guy Fletcher, the team were pleased to receive positive feedback from local residents throughout the day with many onlookers stopping to offer their thanks.

At one point, the cadet’s handiwork was even met with a standing applause.

DC Cally Beale said: “I’m really proud to see our cadets giving up their free time for such a worthwhile initiative.  Everyone wants their local community to remain rubbish free and a safe, clean place to live or work.  This just goes to show that a few helping hands can make a huge difference.

"In the coming months, the cadets will be rolling up their sleeves for more community activities as they build towards their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze awards.”
