Cadets get to grips with community radio
Cadets from Basildon got to grips with what it’s like to be part of community radio this morning (Saturday, February 3) as they paid a visit to Gateway 97.8FM.

The cadets, accompanied by Unit leader Chris Burch, met the Gateway 97.8FM team and received a tour of the studio, based in Eastgate, Basildon.

After pushing buttons and flicking switches, the cadets were interviewed by Johnny Jenkins for his ‘Coffee and Tea’ show.

They spoke about what it’s like to be part of the Basildon Unit, team building exercises and plans for the future.

Pc Chris Burch said: “The Volunteer Police Cadets is all about giving something back to the community so when the opportunity arose to appear on community radio, we jumped at the chance.

“As well as the live studio interview, the cadets gave an extended prerecorded interview to the Radio Club, which will be broadcast next Saturday. I’d like to thank everyone at the station for inviting us to the studio.”
