Street Weeks returns to Colchester

Street Weeks returns to Colchester

Last week our officers spent time in the New Town area of Colchester in the lead up to our second ‘Street Weeks’ week of action, which will be taking place this February half-term.

‘Street Weeks’ is about listening to the concerns and needs of the community and taking action through our Community Safety Partnership to tackle criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in the area, as well as working to help Colchester’s most vulnerable people.

Colchester’s Community Safety Partnership is made up of local authorities, community groups and organisations from across the district. Essex County Fire & Rescue Service, Colchester Borough Council, Zone Warden Officers and local Councillors are all involved, along with Colchester Borough Homes, Crimestoppers, the East-of-England Co-op, Active Citizens and Neighbourhood Watch groups. By working together we can identify and resolve issues which residents feel are a cause for concern in their community.

Last week our officers were in the Barrington Road area of Colchester alongside Civil Enforcement officers from North Essex Parking Partnership and Council Zone Warden officers to address issues of inconsiderate parking in the area, which had been raised to us by the residents as an ongoing problem.

We also took this opportunity to speak with parents of children who attend the local primary school, discussing concerns they have about crime and anti-social behaviour in their community and the ways which we plan to deal with these matters.

Colchester’s second ‘Street Weeks’ initiative will be launched this half-term as part of the Safety Partnership’s Community Day which will be taking place at Old Heath Road recreation ground in Colchester on Monday, February 12 from 10am to 2pm.

The event is about bringing all members of the community together, giving residents the opportunity to share your concerns with us and discuss how we can take action to address these issues. It’s really important for you to let us know what these are, so we can identify how to address these matters. Please help by completing our survey.
