Family pay tribute to man who died following altercation in Brentwood

January 30

Officers investigating the death of Paul Wallington in Brentwood last year are releasing CCTV images of two men they want to speak to as witnesses.
 

Mr Wallington, 25, was assaulted outside The Vine bar in the High Street at around 11.50pm on December 24.
 

Sadly, he died in hospital five days later.
 

So far officers have spoken to more than 20 witnesses but need to trace the two men pictured.
 

One of the men is described as wearing a grey hooded top and blue jeans, and had a distinctive dark-coloured hospital boot on his lower right leg.
 

The other man is described as wearing a green top and dark jeans.




A 29 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and is currently on bail until March 25.

A post-mortem examination has found a man who died following an assault in Brentwood on Christmas Eve, died from a head injury.

25 year-old Paul Wallington was injured following an incident outside The Vine bar in the High Street at around 11.50pm on December 24.

He was taken to hospital but, sadly, died on Saturday, December 29.

A 29 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently on bail until January 25.

A man has died in hospital following an incident in Brentwood on Christmas Eve. 

At about 11.50pm on Monday, December 24, an altercation occurred outside The Vine Bar in the High Street, Brentwood.

During this incident a 25-year-old man, named by the police as Paul Wallington, was punched and knocked to the floor.

An ambulance was called and he was taken to Queens’s Hospital in Romford. He sadly died on Saturday, December 29.

We have launched a murder investigation and officers and staff from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate are investigating.

A 29-year-old man from Basildon was arrested on suspicion of murder this morning and he remains in custody.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Daniel Stoten, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: “The death of a man so young, at this time of year is heart-breaking.

“We would like to hear from anyone who was at or near to The Vine prior to, or at the time of the incident and witnessed it or recorded footage on their phones.

“I would also like to appeal to the occupants of any passing vehicles who witnessed the incident or have dash-cam footage to contact us.”

Trained officers are supporting the victim’s family, who have provided the following words.

“We are devastated at the loss of our beloved son, Paul. He was a happy and loving son and enjoyed spending time at home with his family, especially his nephews and nieces.

Paul is a much loved son, brother and grandson. We would ask that at this time we are left in peace to grieve as a family”
