Off-duty Special Constable helps distressed victim

Off-duty Special Constable helps distressed victim
One of our volunteer police officers came to the aid of a distressed victim while off-duty in Colchester.

Special Sergeant Darren Hickey was off-duty in Colchester earlier this month when he witnessed an assault on a man.

Darren rushed to the man and told him that he was an off-duty Special Constable who could help him.

The man was distressed after being assaulted and while reassuring him, Darren gathered details about the incident and reported it to colleagues. Darren passed on a description of the suspects and stayed with the man in case the suspects returned.

S/Sgt Darren Hickey has been a Special Constable for eight years and has been a Special Sergeant for five years. He joined the Metropolitan Police Service in 2011 and transferred to us last year where he helps to lead a team of Special Constables in Chelmsford.
