Andy joined Essex Police in 2016 bringing with him 20 years of policing experience. He joined the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) in 1997, working in a variety of policing roles before transferring to Essex.
During his two decades working in the capital, Andy oversaw the policing of major public events. This included Notting Hill carnival and New Year's Eve, along with lots of Premier League football matches.
In 2012, Andy led the Olympic Torch security operation working with police forces across the UK to ensure the Torch's safe arrival in London.
Andy joined Essex Police as a Superintendent and continued his promotion through the ranks. In 2022 completed the Strategic Command Course. This is the most senior leadership development programme in UK policing. In January 2023, he was appointed Assistant Chief Constable (ACC).
In his role as ACC, Andy is accountable for local policing in Essex. This responsibility incorporates several departments. From those who respond to emergencies, investigate crime, and work within our communities, to teams who have a specialist skills. This includes those teams who support our rural and business communities. He also leads our approach to Hate Crime and how we engage with children and young people. Plus he oversees our volunteer programme, which includes heading up our Special Constabulary.
Alongside his work in Essex, Andy became the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) lead for stop and search.
Andy lives in Essex with his wife and has five children. When he does get some down time you can often see him jogging (slowly!) around different parts of the county.
