The district of Epping Forest is in the west of Essex. It borders Greater London and Hertfordshire along with the Essex districts of Harlow, Brentwood, Uttlesford and Chelmsford.
The area covers around 130 square miles (339 square kilometres). It has a population of approximately 135,000 people (2021).
Towns in the Epping Forest District include Buckhurst Hill, Epping, Loughton, Ongar, and Waltham Abbey. Villages include Abridge, Chigwell, North Weald and Roydon.
The District Commander role focuses on reducing and detecting crime in the district. They are also responsible for community policing.
